In January 2017 I was invited back to the Quinta, Congleton to work with KS2 children who were taking part in a whole school project based on the environment and in particular waste and recycling. Over three days we worked with plastic bottles, cutting and melting them to create flowers which were then painted with bright spray paints: we also took a pile of cardboard rubbish and made a large wall display of abstract cardboard art: on the last day we used tin cans and a wide range of bits and pieces to make tin can robots. We had a bit of time left on the last day so we also made some plastic bottle elephants. I also spoke to the children about many of the other projects I undertake using basic household rubbish and got them talking and thinging about ways of recycling or reusing creatively.

The Bistro area before the make over

Widnes Academy - Autumn 2016

I was invited to work with a small group of Year 5 children to transform a dull and uninspiring lean-to area in the playground. Built up against the red brick of this glorious victorian building the area, known as 'The Bistro', was suffering from the ravages of weather and age and needed a lot of TLC. The plan was to paint the old brick and all the wood work, brightening up the whole place and to create some amazing junk ark!

In November I was commissioned to produce three pieces of work for a friend, whose daughter celebrates her 21st birthday in January. The party venue is to be decorated in Tiki/Hawaiian style and they wanted me to make three set pieces - a totem, mask and sign. I used old cardboard boxes for the structure and lettering, plus corrugated cardboard to add texture and shredded cardboard for the 'hair'.

Macclesfield Open Exhibition 2015

cheeky chappy (6)

These two pieces were accepted for the Macclefield Open Exhibition. The punk head has a polystyrene base which has had paper and paper mache clay added to it to create features. It has then been covered in cloth mache and painted. The tattoo and jewellery were hand painted/made. The cheeky chappy was inspired by the characters on the film The Boxtrolls. His hair is made from sheeps fleece (I was given four bin bags full) and all the clothes have been treated with PVA.
